WELCOME TO

THE UK'S LARGEST UNIVERSITY WOMENS RUGBY CLUB

UBWRFC

ABOUT THE TEAM

Since our humble beginning back in 1988, UBWRFC has grown to become one of the largest clubs in the UK. With 3 teams playing in BUCS, a development team, 5 coaching staff, a physio, and over 90 members, our club continuously challenges each other to develop our rugby whilst being an inclusive space for every girl at university.

At UBWRFC we pride ourselves on being a friendly, welcoming and supportive team for girls from any sporting background. We promise a thorough introduction to women's rugby for new players, a great time on and off the pitch with a wide variety of socials, and plenty of opportunities to volunteer and coach.

The University of Bristol's Women's Rugby Club is officially the biggest women's university rugby team in the UK after reaching almost 100 paying members.

The Club's ethos is all about inclusivity. No matter your fitness, experience, or ability, there is a place for you on the team.

A statement from our current Club Captain, Lieske Oomen, emphasises that "we are proud to promote we have an open door policy all year round. No matter what your experience there is always a place for you at our club whether that is in our 1xv, 2xv, 3xv or development team."

It is this can-do attitude of the coaches which means that girls who are 5’2 with limited experience can eventually tackle that intimidating 6-footer in the opposing team. Talk about girl power.

Rugby girls know how to have a good time when it comes to sports night, but believe it or not, it’s not all centred around drinking and Grav. The club also offers day-time socials, including the opportunity to go and watch live matches. Recent social highlights include the family social and a scavenger hunt, where no animal got left behind.

With campaigns such as This Girl Can and Inner Warrior, rugby’s “masculine” persona is slowly vanishing. UoB’s Women’s Rugby team is leading this revolution of inclusion and acceptance.
